LG launches V40 ThinQ smartphone with five-camera setup

To make the best use of its triple camera setup, LG is introducing a new feature in its LG V40 ThinQ called the Triple Shot.

Korean electronics giant, LG, on Wednesday launched its next flagship device -LG V40 ThinQ- at a special event in New York. The phone, as LG has been teasing in the past couple of days, comes with five cameras and it packs the same boombox speakers that we saw in LG G7 ThinQ smartphone that was launched earlier this year.

The LG V40 ThinQ sports a 6.4-inch QHD+ OLED FullVision Display with a resolution of 3120 x 1440 pixels. Just like its predecessor, the LG V35 ThinQ, V40 ThinQ is also compliant with MIL-STD 810G standard. Additionally, it comes with IP68 water and dust resistant technology. In terms of the design, the phone comes with a matte glass finish, which the company says is highly resistant to fingerprint stains.

In terms of specifications, the LG V40 ThinQ is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and it runs on Android 8.1 Oreo. It sports 6GB RAM and is available in two memory variants- 64GB and 128GB- which can be expanded up to 2TB via microSD.

The newly launched V-series smartphone comes with triple camera setup at the back with a standard 12MP lens with a focal length of f1.5, a 12MP telephoto lens with a focal length of f2.4 and a 16 super wide-angle lens with a focal length of f1.9. In the front, the phone sports an 8MP standard lens with a focal length of f1.9 and a 5MP wide-angle length with a focal length of f2.2.

To make the best use of its triple camera setup, LG is introducing a new feature in its LG V40 ThinQ called the Triple Shot, which enables users to click three pictures using the phones standard, telephoto and wide-angle lens in a single go. V40 ThinQ, just like LG G7 ThinQ, comes with the company's AI Cam, which automatically adjusts the saturation and other settings of the phone's camera.

Additionally, there is a Cine Shot mode, which enables users to create cinemagraphs using any of the phone's three cameras.

In terms of the audio, apart from sporting the boombox technology, the phone also features the 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, which the company says delivers a sound, which is closer to the recording sound.

In terms of connectivity, the LG V40 ThinQ has LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 5.0 and USB Type-C 2.0. It is backed by a 3,3900mAH battery and it comes with Qualcomm' Quick Charge 4.0 technology. It is available in four colour variants-- New Aurora Black, New Platinum Gray, New Moroccan Blue, Carmine Red.

As far as the availability is concerned, in the US, the phone will be available between $900 to $980, depending on the carrier starting October 18. However, the company hasn't announced availability for other regions yet.
