Asus Zenfone 5Z receives FOTA update with new features and camera enhancements

In the last two weeks, Asus has been rolling out a new firmware update, for its recently launched Asus Zenfone 5Z. The update brings in several new functionalities to the interface and improvements to the camera as well. Now the company has made the FOTA update official and is giving us an in-depth idea of all its contents.

One of the new features added to the list is lift to unlock. The feature makes it easier to unlock the smartphone, as it omits the need to press the power button to enable the face unlock feature every time. Along with that, Asus is also incorporating gesture navigation on the Zenfone 5Z, which Google introduced with Android 9 Pie. The feature can be enabled from the Display menu in the Settings apps after installing the update.

Moving on to the camera features and improvements, Asus is adding new Live filters to the camera app and also enabling RAW file support. In order to take still images and videos, it is also adding EIS (Electronic image stabilization) support for full HD video recording. The camera also supports optical image stabilization and will switch between the two depending on the shooting conditions.

Panorama and the option to use the flash in the Pro mode have also been enabled. Additionally, the new update brings in support for a 3-Dimensional Noise Reduction feature in Pro mode and heat detection for video recording.

Coming to the camera improvements, the Zenfone 5Z will now feature improved HDR and Selfie camera capabilities. Manual White Balance also seems to have been improved in the Pro mode. And lastly, the audio quality in video recording has been boosted up to 192kbps bitrate.

The new update is said to be Over-The-Air (OTA), so users would likely be getting a notification to download and install it. However, if you have somehow managed to miss the notification, then you can manually check for it in the Settings app on the smartphone.
