Amazon Echo Show 8 launched in India: Check out price, features, release date

Amazon has launched the much-awaited Echo show in India and the smart speaker is priced at Rs 12,999. The company will start shipping the devices from February 26 and it can be pre-booked at the Amazon India website.

The latest addition to the Amazon Echo family will feature an 8-inch HD screen and house a built-in camera with shutter. It will also support stereo sound. The device can be primarily used for video calling, watching movies and TV shows.


It will support the streaming apps like Amazon Prime Video, Voot and Apple Music. Apart from this, the smart speaker will also have Alexa voice assistant support. It will lock horns with Google’s Home Hub, a smart display speaker with a 7-inch display and built-in Google Assistant and costs Rs 9000.

The Amazon Echo Show 8 will allow users to make hands-free calls, listen to music, watch news and watch any trailers, you just have to ask to play the videos or the songs that you want to hear. The video calling facility is however available only if your friends and family have Skype, other Echo devices or the Alexa app.

The smart speaker allows you to even send messages and instantly connect with people who have Echo devices with screens. The device also helps you in controlling your home, for example, you can ask Alexa to control the lights of your living room, switch on and off the Air Conditioner using smart plugs. Once you set up the smart home device, Alexa will automatically find and connect to your devices.

The device can also prove to be very useful for the kids, especially when you want to get done with the household chores. Echo Show 8 can play animated nursery rhymes, make animal sounds and also enable the kids to play knowledge games.


You can also turn your Amazon Echo Show 8 into a little Karaoke device as it can display the lyrics of a song when you ask Alexa to play a song from Amazon Prime Music. It also supports other music apps like Gaana, Apple Music, JioSaavn, Gaana, Hungama and more.
The Echo Show 8 has over 30,000 skills in English and over 800 skills in Hindi so don’t fret if you are not very comfortable conversing in English. You can also check Alexa’s skills by accessing the Discovery Panel or you can simply ask, "Alexa, What can you do?"
Meanwhile, before you test all the above-mentioned features, do not forget to connect the device to Alexa using the Alexa app on your smartphone. Apart from Echo Show 8, Amazon has three other devices with a display such as the Echo Show 5 and Echo Show, which are priced at Rs 8,999 and Rs 22, 999.
