If you are stunned with the headline, then you aren't wrong. If leaks from Weibo are to be believed, OnePlus may ditch a Qualcomm chipset for its alleged entry-level phone in 2020 for Mediatek's new flagship chip.

The OnePlus 8 Lite, as called by the leaks, might end up featuring the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 chip that's supposed to be on par with the Snapdragon 865. However, that's not the only surprise as the entire OnePlus 8 series promises a lot of new upgrades across the range.

As leaked before, OnePlus is coming up with three OnePlus 8 series phones this year. The top-of-the-range model will be called the OnePlus 8 Pro whereas the regular model will be called the OnePlus 8. There will be a new affordable variant that will be aimed at a more affordable price bracket and this phone will use the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 chip.

Let's get the OnePlus 8 Lite out of the queue first. The OnePlus 8 Lite will be cheaper than the OnePlus 8 and that means OnePlus will be relying heavily on the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 chipset that's rumoured to be as capable, if not more powerful, as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865.

MediaTek's chip will also support 5G connectivity but OnePlus could offer the chip with a 4G modem just to keep the costs low. The phone will come with 8GB RAM and up to 256GB storage.

For the display, OnePlus will use a 6.4-inch Full HD+ display with 90Hz refresh rate. The phone will thrive on a 4000mAh battery and it will use a 30W Warp Charging system. The phone is also said to use a combination of a 48-megapixel main camera along with a 16-megapixel ultra-wide camera as well as 12-megapixel telephoto camera at the back for photography, offering 5x hybrid zoom.

On the whole, it seems that the OnePlus 8 Lite will mostly be a repackaged OnePlus 7T with the new MediaTek chipset selling at a much lower price. In India, OnePlus could sell this for less than Rs 30,000.
