Xiaomi may launch the Mi 8 Screen Fingerprint edition aka the Mi 8 Pro and the Mi 8 Lite in India soon. The company has started teasing the global roll-out of the Mi 8 Pro and Mi 8 Lite in global markets and India could be one of them although Xiaomi has not categorically mentioned the regions where it will launch these phones in the days to come. The Mi 8 Pro and the Mi 8 Lite are variants of the Mi 8 and are exclusively to China for now.
The Mi 8 Pro, which is essentially a global version of the Mi 8 Explorer edition which means that it is also a high-end flagship phone. It packs a pressure-sensitive in-display fingerprint scanner and is available in a range of colours and configurations. Unlike the Mi 8 Explorer Edition, the Mi 8 Pro supports IR-based face unlock and not 3D facial recognition tech.
The Mi 8 Pro comes with a 6.21-inch FHD+ AMOLED display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with up to 8GB RAM and up to 128GB storage. The dual-SIM phone runs Android Oreo-based MIUI 10 and supports what Xiaomi calls dual-frequency GPS.
In terms of optics, the Mi 8 Pro comes with a dual camera setup on the rear -- 12-megapixel + 12-megapixel -- where one lens is wide-angle while the other is telephoto. It offers 2X optical zoom and 10X digital zoom. The dual camera system on-board the phone is assisted with 4-axis OIS. The primary sensor, which is a Sony IMX363, has large 1.4um pixel size, an aperture of f/1.8 and also there is dual pixel autofocus along with hardware-based multi-frame noise reduction. The secondary sensor meanwhile has an aperture of f/2.4. On the front, the Mi 8 Pro comes with a 20-megapixel camera.
The Mi 8 Lite meanwhile sits below the Mi 8 SE in Xiaomi's Mi 8 phone line-up and is available in as many as three configurations, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, 6GB RAM and 64GB storage and 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. It comes with a 6.26-inch FHD+ display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor. The dual-SIM phone runs Android Oreo-based MIUI software. The phone is backed by a 3,350mAh battery.
In terms of optics, the Mi 8 Lite comes with a dual camera system consisting of one 12-megapixel sensor and another 5-megapixel sensor for depth sensing. On the front, the Mi 8 Lite comes with a 24-megapixel camera.
Both the Mi 8 Pro and the Mi 8 Lite boast of glass and metal design. Unlike the Mi 8, the Mi 8 Pro and the Mi 8 Lite come with a unique gradient finish on the back, much like how it is in Huawei and Honor phones.
