Very soon Facebook will find not just friends but your soul mate as well. The social network platform has begun testing its dating feature called the Facebook Dating in Colombia. For those unaware, Facebook announced the new feature at Facebook F8 developer conference earlier this year.
Users aged 18 and above will be able to avail the service. Notably, desktop users will not be able to use the feature. For now, the feature is available for free and will be a part of the main app.

In an interview to The Verge, Nathan Sharp, Product Manager, Facebook said “Dating has been a behavior that we’ve seen on Facebook for a really long time. We want to make it easier and more comfortable for people to engage in. We just thought that now was the right time.”
The feature is completely optional. To maintain privacy, Facebook will draw only the name and age from the main Facebook profile.
Once an individual opts for the service, he/she will be asked to prepare a separate dating profile. This will include an introduction of oneself, a profile picture, personal details and answer to personal questions like “What does your perfect day look like?” However, all this information will be separate from one’s Facebook profile.
Those opting for the service will have to verify their location and will be able to find matches within 100 kilometers. For now, Facebook Dating does not allow one to use his/her virtual location and leaves out added friends from the matchers’ list.
Interestingly, the feature differs from its rival Tinder and Bumble in many aspects. Facebook Dating users will have to scroll down the profile and tap in interested in a profile, unlike Tinder where users have to swipe right or left to show their interest. Also, you can chat with the individual before making a match as opposed to Tinder where one needs to match first to send a message.
