Motorala has had various aesthetic changes over the years, to the fairly cookie-cutter mold it has now.
However, ask any fan which their favourite one was and they’ll certainly point to the pre-smartphone era Moto RAZR. Well boy do we have good news for you.
he RAZR was a symbol of Motorola’s reign at the top, during the days of feature phones. With its iconic design and sleek lines, no phone ever looked cooler. Now, according to a recent patent spotted by Mobielkopen on the US Trademark Patent Office website, the RAZR may be making a grand comeback soon. It won’t be called the RAZR (not that we know of), but it will look very similar to the original.
Based on the patent, Motorola seems to be chasing the same dream as a few other smartphone brands, namely a foldable display. At the moment, Samsung and Huawei both seem equally close to achieving the feat while others lag behind. However, that’s not stopping any of them from attempting to snag patents for the technology.
As you can see in the images, the rebooted RAZR will be a clamshell device just like the original. However, where the RAZR could easily achieve this with one panel having the display and the other the keypad, the RAZR 2.0 as it were would have to implement a large foldable display. The two halves of the phone chassis meanwhile feature hinges like those on a laptop. Unfortunately, that likely also means the folded end of the device is going to have a gaping hole
This is just a patent after all, so keep your hype to manageable levels. There’s no guarantee a device like this will ever be made, though we can keep our fingers crossed.
