The Facebook-owned chat app started to experience problems with its service at around 7am in the UK with India,  South Africa and parts of Malaysia also hit but the outage.

Independent website DownDetector, which tracks social comments around a certain topic to monitor outages across the globe, has mapped the problems.

The news also comes after the company revealed WhatsApp will no longer be supported on Android 2.3 Gingerbread devices in 2020. It might not be a big deal, because Google’s distribution dashboard shows Android 2.3 (released in 2011) only accounts for 0.3 percent of all devices visiting the Play Store.
